The Picture House – Streatham SW16

The Picture House is a mixed development of 62 flats, a restaurant and leisure centre. The splendid 1930s Art Deco Odeon Cinema façade and foyer is grade two listed. It retaines part of the original cinema, now accommodating the restaurant unit. Consent was given for the demolition of the rear auditorium and in its place this adjoining new building has been added. The basement and ground floor leisure unit is now occupied by Fitness First.

Of the flats a quarter are social housing run by Amicus Housing Association; the remainder are privately owned. The contract value of the project was in the region of £10 million, the developer Merc Investments built the scheme with their own contracting company.
